Farm Windhoek Game Lodge – Where nature meets tradition

WELCOME TO FARM WINDHOEK GAME LODGE

Nestled in the heart of the Namaqualand, close to Kamieskroon, in South Africa’s ruggedly beautiful Northern Cape, Farm Windhoek Game Lodge offers a unique escape where the wild and the pastoral live side by side. Set on a working farm, our lodge invites guests to experience the best of both worlds — the raw beauty of natural wildlife roaming freely across open landscapes, and the charm of daily farming life with animals and activities that reflect the region’s agricultural heritage.

Whether you’re seeking peaceful moments in nature, close-up encounters with game and farm animals, or simply a break from the everyday, Farm Windhoek Game Lodge promises an authentic and enriching experience for all who visit.

More about the farm

Farm Windhoek — originally known as Kleinghas (Koi ghas, meaning “small fountain / drinking place”) — is part of Oest, the mother farm on which the town of Kamieskroon is also located.

A portion of the farm is still used for agriculture, allowing visitors to observe both the natural wildlife and farm animals, as well as the daily farming activities.

The Genis Family

In 1880, this section became the property of the Genis family. Since then, Cornelis Genis, now the fifth generation farming on the land, has expanded it into a wildlife and guest farm. It is also part of the conservation area in Namaqualand and borders the Namaqualand National Park.

On the farm, the family Bible is preserved, along with a family book written by Gerrit Genis, which traces the family’s origins from medieval France to the 17th century, then to Holland (1638–1849), and finally to South Africa in 1850 when the ancestor Evert Genis arrived from Holland.
